Chemical Spill Training Module 6 Activity

In this activity, you will carry out a site readiness check on a spill kit in your own work area. A spill kit is only useful if it is fully stocked and someone is responsible for keeping it that way — so this exercise focuses on the local chain of command behind the kit, not just the kit itself. This will help you confirm that, after any incident, you know exactly who restores the kit to a “response ready” state and who signs it off.

Before you begin:

Head to the nearest spill kit to your workstation. Have the kit in front of you as you work through the steps below.

Find out who in your area is the designated contact for procuring replacement absorbents and PPE. Ask your supervisor or check the site noticeboard if you are unsure.

Identify the competent person authorised to perform the final kit inspection and sign-off after a restock.

Locate the kit’s maintenance register and check when it was last inspected.
